Non-verbal communication of infants born prematurely as a method of assessing the functional state of the central nervous system
Barbora Červenková
Listy klinické logopedie 2022, 6(1):4-9 | DOI: 10.36833/lkl.2022.0052356
Non-verbal communication usually complements verbal communication. The means of non-verbal communication usually include gestures, body or head movements, body posture, facial expression, eye view, proxemics and body contact, tone of voice and other aspects of our appearance or the space we inhabit. However, we can obtain a much wider range of information from the non-verbal communication of infants born prematurely. Experts, doctors (neurologist, neonatologist) and development specialists from various non-medical professions (speech and language therapist, physiotherapist, occupational therapist, psychologist) need to investigate the current functional...

Listy klinické logopedie 2022, 6(1):10-16 | DOI: 10.36833/lkl.2022.0041142
We introduce the application of alternative and augmentative communication aids in children with combined disabilities and symptomatic speech disorders. We will briefly introduce and compare alternative routes of communication in two boys with developmental anarthria. The first case study is devoted to a child with Lesch-Nyhan syndrome, the second to a boy with a developmental disorder of the central nervous system. Our goal is to map the avenues for functional communication and the development of a child unable to speak.
AACtual Therapy: Using Aided Language Modelling (Carol Zangari, 2020)
Martina Kukumbergová
Listy klinické logopedie 2022, 6(1):17-22 | DOI: 10.36833/lkl.2022.0022147
The traditional AAC intervention is focused on developing the production of the AAC user. Aided Language Modelling is a popular evidence-based AAC intervention strategy and has a positive impact not only on the production of graphic symbols, but also on improving speech comprehension. The basic principle of this intervention is that the communication partner uses AAC in addition to spoken language, in order to provide the child with a model of the communication modality that the child will use for production. Several studies have shown and demonstrated that this type of AAC intervention helps to develop other communication skills of AAC users.
The challenges of facilitated communication through tactile technological aids for individuals with dual sensory impairments
Marína Štibrányiová
Listy klinické logopedie 2022, 6(1):23-25 | DOI: 10.36833/lkl.2022.0031073
Communication opportunities for individuals with dual sensory impairments and mainstream society are supported by technical aids. A number of research teams are developing technical aids to facilitate and directly mediate communication. However, the complexity of the technological solution means that many of these aids do not reach the practical world and people with dual sensory impairments are not able to use them. This review study offers insights into the development of technological solutions and their application in practice.
Practical use of core vocabulary and modelling in augmentative and alternative communication
Jana Šarounová
Listy klinické logopedie 2022, 6(1):26-30 | DOI: 10.36833/lkl.2022.0072654
The article deals with two topics of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), which are important for the implementation of active user communication - core vocabulary and modelling. Use of the core vocabulary allows an AAC user to express him-/herself more comprehensively in many communication opportunities and to extend communication to situations other than mere requests. It introduces the use of sentences and expands the vocabulary in both manual signs and symbol communication. Modelling represents the most natural method of "training" communication using AAC, during which ACC methods are demonstrated to the user by his/her communication...
Assessment of speech and cognitive functions 10 years after traumatic brain injury in adolescent: case study
Lenka Dzidová
Listy klinické logopedie 2022, 6(1):31-38 | DOI: 10.36833/lkl.2022.0081240
This paper deals with the case study of an adolescent after severe traumatic brain injury and its consequences, including the mention of prognostic factors and predictors of the development of the individual's state of health. It concerns a boy who, at the age of 13 years, suffered a serious brain injury - bleeding into the right lateral ventricle, frontal contusion on the right, diffuse brain oedema, multiple fractures of the right cranial vault and fractures of the facial bones. His epidural haematoma was evacuated on the right side of a decompression craniectomy. The boy was in
Alternative and Augmentative Communication in Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Patients

Listy klinické logopedie 2022, 6(1):39-45 | DOI: 10.36833/lkl.2022.0142028
Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease. Among others, dysarthria and dysphagia (i.e. bulbar dysfunction) represent common clinical manifestations of ALS. Gradual impairment or even loss of speech functions puts ALS patients in the position of serious candidates for the implementation of Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC). Regular follow-up with the assessment of speech functions and AAC recommendation and settings in the relevant cases provided by the Clinical Speech Therapist are recommended in all ALS patients, from the onset of the disease. Maintaining the possibility of communication and interaction...
Gestures in Patients with Diagnosed Aphasia
Martin Janečka
Listy klinické logopedie 2022, 6(1):46-52 | DOI: 10.36833/lkl.2022.0111944
V článku chceme ukázat, jakým způsobem se liší používání gest u mluvčích češtiny s diagnostikovanou afázií od mluvčích bez afázie a zda afatické osoby používají cílevědomě gesta k tomu, aby kompenzovaly svůj řečový deficit.

The most important parameters of Bottle Nipples currently used in the Czech Republic for feeding Preterm Infants who are hospitalised
Barbora Červenková
Listy klinické logopedie 2022, 6(1):55-62 | DOI: 10.36833/lkl.2021.0261351
The aim of this study is to test the speed and variability of the flow of nipples currently used in the Czech Republic in NICU. 10 disposable nipples and 10 reusable nipples were selected for comparison. Subsequently, 10 identical products from each teat were tested and included in the basic set of nipples to be tested. The volume of the infant milk suctioned for one minute was measured using a breastmilk pump. The average flow rate through the nipple and the coefficient of variation were used to compare the nipples of individual categories and production brands.
Incidence of disfluencies in the discourses of healthy adults

Listy klinické logopedie 2022, 6(1):63-69 | DOI: 10.36833/lkl.2022.001912
Several factors can affect the fluency of discourse production and the occurrence of disfluencies within it. Mostly the influence on language production of age, education and gender is considered. However, to date, we know relatively little about the influence of these factors on the incidence of disfluencies in the discourses of the healthy adult population. Therefore, the aim of our research was to provide a more comprehensive view of this issue. We compared the incidence of disfluencies in male and female discourses, in three age and three educational categories, working with a total sample of 182 participants. According to our results, age, education,...
Facilitation-systemic Therapy
Vilma Mikešová
Listy klinické logopedie 2022, 6(1):70-75 | DOI: 10.36833/lkl.2022.0061578
Facilitation-systemic Therapy is a comprehensive therapeutic system, founded on the methodological basis of Luria's neuropsychological school. It is based on Luria's idea of brain functioning, and on his legacy and the work of many of his colleagues and followers. Facilitation-systemic Therapy is also a set of procedures and methods reflecting the needs of contemporary Czech and (with a slight linguistic modification) Slovakian clinical speech therapy aphasiological practice. It is based on the belief that, in contemporary practice, there is already a widely known number of useful methods and aids that can help in overcoming the difficulties arising...
