Comorbid psychiatric illnesses in developmental dysphasia (developmental language disorder)
Lenka Pospíšilová
Listy klinické logopedie 2023, 7(2):4-12 | DOI: 10.36833/lkl.2023.0182960
Psychiatric diseases include some logopaedic diagnoses. To understand them, it is necessary to distinguish between speech, language and social communication, deficits of which are also indicators of other mental disorders. Disruption of language development results in developmental language disorder, increasingly known abroad under the abbreviation DLD, and in the Czech Republic under the term "developmental dysphasia". This disorder belongs among neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs), which are characterised by a strong genetic background, structural abnormalities in the brain, and a tendency to persist throughout life. Because common features of NDDs...
Selective Mutism - Case Reports: Multimodal therapeutic approach supplemented BY Work at the Clay Field®
Barbora Richtrová
Listy klinické logopedie 2023, 7(2):13-18 | DOI: 10.36833/lkl.2023.0192204
Selective Mutism is classified as a less common anxiety disorder. This type of disorder is highly disruptive and limits the quality of life. Early detection and appropriately selected therapy are therefore essential. Therapy should be based on two basic human needs: RELATIONSHIP and SAFETY. Currently, therapy involving multiple modalities is dominantly used. The effectiveness of behavioural therapy and the use of "unfocused" communication is scientifically confirmed (Oerbeck et al., 2014; Driessen et al., 2020). In our case, we have extended the multimodal approach to include the Work at the Clay Field® sensorimotor art therapy method. It is a...
Introduction to Approaching Autism within the Contexts of the Neurodiversity Paradigm and the Person-Centred Approach
Miklós Csémy
Listy klinické logopedie 2023, 7(2):19-26 | DOI: 10.36833/lkl.2023.0203113
The aim of this review is to describe the role of the neurodiversity paradigm in the perception of Autism and other neurodevelopmental phenomena and to evaluate its implications for clinical practice. The diagnostic criteria and conceptualisation of Autism have undergone a number of changes over the past hundred years. Initially, Autism was part of the concept of schizophrenia, followed by Kanner's concept, which was later expanded to include Asperger's syndrome; significant generalising changes in the classification of Autism are evident in the 5th edition of the DSM and the 11th edition of the ICD. Traditional medical models...
Selective mutism - the optics of the present
Barbora Richtrová
Listy klinické logopedie 2023, 7(2):27-33 | DOI: 10.36833/lkl.2023.0212520
The aim of this article is to describe a brief overview of the current scientific concept of selective mutism. Professional awareness of selective mutism has undergone significant changes since the first pioneering work of Dr. Kussmaul in 1877 and the later work of child psychiatrist Tramer in 1934. This review study provides a summary of the current scientific knowledge on selective mutism. The main goal is to draw attention to the fact that current studies and analyzes offer the classification of selective mutism among neurodevelopmental disorders, as selective mutism is a heterogeneous, complex and multifaceted disorder. Classification among anxiety...

Dementia is a syndrome caused by a brain disease in which higher cortical functions, including memory, thinking, orientation, learning, language, judgement, and others are impaired. The impairment of these functions causes significant limitations in the patient's self-sufficiency over time.

Listy klinické logopedie 2023, 7(2):38-46 | DOI: 10.36833/lkl.2023.0161514
Introduction: Stuttering is a complex speech disorder, appearing already at preschool age. Despite the fact that spontaneous correction may occur, we consider it important to devote therapy to this disorder already at this age.
