Barbora Červenková, Michaela Sedláčková

Listy klinické logopedie 2023, 7(1):4-10 | DOI: 10.36833/lkl.2023.0031888

The case report presents a girl aged 10.5 years who was diagnosed with Kabuki syndrome. The inheritance of this syndrome is autosomal-dominant. The main clinical features include facial stigmata, malformations and congenital organ malformations, short stature and dysphagia. Phenotypic features include impaired language skills and reasoning. Most children with this diagnosis have intellectual disability. The aim of this case report is to present a two-stage diagnostic procedure, applicable to individuals with symptomatic speech impairment based on combined intellectual and physical disabilities, so that the subsequent therapeutic approach can be targeted....

Jana Mironova Tabachová

Listy klinické logopedie 2023, 7(1):11-18 | DOI: 10.36833/lkl.2023.0071633

The paper summarises current theoretical findings in the field of shortened labial and lingual frenulum, with an emphasis on newborn and infant ages. The first part of the post focuses on breastfeeding, the second defines the knowledge of the connection between ankyloglossia and articulation. Part of the article is a case study of a child who is provided with preoperative speech therapy care from the age of 18 months. In the case study, we focus on the diagnostic conclusions that are followed by the speech therapy care provided and which is essential after postoperative care.

Congenital Myotonic Dystrophy in the Neonatal Period -

Barbora Červenková

Listy klinické logopedie 2023, 7(1):19-26 | DOI: 10.36833/lkl.2023.0081114

Congenital myotonic dystrophy is the most severe form of myotonic dystrophy type 1 (DM1), an autosomal dominant multisystem disorder. Myotonic dystrophies are primarily degenerative, genetically determined and progressive disorders of skeletal and smooth muscles. Myotonic dystrophy represents multi-organ diseases, and causes diseases of the eyes, heart, endocrine and central (but sometimes peripheral) nervous system. Speech and language therapy for a CDM child is recommended from the moment of their birth, because there is a higher risk of dysphagia. This paper presents the role of a Clinical Speech Therapist in the diagnosis and therapy of a patient...

Adelaida Fábianová, Žofia Frajková, Miroslav Tedla

Listy klinické logopedie 2023, 7(1):27-30 | DOI: 10.36833/lkl.2023.0101011

Cornelia de Lange Syndrome is a genetic syndrome with manifestations in the somatic, cognitive and perceptual areas. It is characterised by interindividual differences among patients with this diagnosis. Impairments include vision and hearing impairments, behavioural disorders and impairment of communication skills. The presented case report presents the characteristics of Cornelia de Lange Syndrome from the point of view of a clinical Speech and Language Therapist. It adds to the professional literature on clinical Speech Therapy procedures used in the therapy of impaired communication skills and in the feeding and swallowing disorder.

Craniofacial and other typical deficits in children with Foetal Alcohol Syndrome - FAS in the context of Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders

Barbora Vodičková, Petra Mitašíková

Listy klinické logopedie 2023, 7(1):31-38 | DOI: 10.36833/lkl.2023.0121180

The article describes the impact of prenatal alcohol exposure (PAE) in the context of the development of craniofacial and other typical deficits in children with foetal alcohol syndrome - FAS. FAS is the most serious diagnosis of foetal alcohol spectrum disorders - FASD. FASD is a non-diagnostic umbrella term for possible consequences of PAE. It is a set of anatomical malformations and neurodevelopmental abnormalities created during intrauterine development of an individual due to alcohol consumption by the mother during pregnancy. There are several diagnostic manuals worldwide for the diagnosis of FASD, including FAS. The 4-Digit Code according to...

Listy klinické logopedie 2023, 7(1):40-48 | DOI: 10.36833/lkl.2023.009963

The article focuses on the neuropsychological evaluation of selected cognitive functions in patients with diffuse low-grade gliomas (DLGG) who underwent awake craniotomy (surgery performed on the patient while conscious and alert). This surgical approach requires the patient's commitment and the cooperation of an interprofessional team. The most important benefit is that it allows the patient's cognitive functions to be monitored

Pilot application of a novel assessment tool evaluating early phonological skills PEEPS-S

Eleonóra Árvai, Zuzana Oravkinová, Dana Buntová, Kristína Kešjarová

Listy klinické logopedie 2023, 7(1):49-56 | DOI: 10.36833/lkl.2023.0151264

This paper demonstrates the application of the preliminary version of a new diagnostic tool for assessing children's early phonological skills. The results of the first application are presented in two case studies. The rationale for the adaptation of the test is that in Slovakia there are no structured tests assessing phonological skills, specifically designed for children at an early age. Quantitative descriptions of children's phonetic repertoires, their ability to name test items and a comparison of their performance, as well as the course of administration indicate that the Slovak version of PEEPS-S has the potential to become a valuable assessment...
