Autism Spectrum Disorders as Seen by a Clinical Psychologist: Case Report

Mgr. et Mgr. Eva Horáčková

Listy klinické logopedie 2025, 9(1):4-13 | DOI: 10.36833/lkl.2025.003331

Autism Spectrum Disorders are pervasive developmental disorders. This means that they influence almost all areas of early development. Parents can see differences mainly in the social area. Children with ASD do not share activities, do not communicate their needs and wishes. At the age of 18 months, parents fill in the M-CHAT-R screening, which is sensitive to possible neurodevelopmental problems. A paediatrician can send the child to specialists in ASD diagnosis - clinical psychologist, child psychiatrist, neurologist and clinical speech therapist. In this article, we introduce you to a case study with differential diagnoses, showing the differences...

The Impact of Aphasia Severity on Spontaneous Speech: Why Is It Important to Assess Coherence and Informativeness?

Mgr. Zuzana Zjarová, Mgr. Viktória Kevická, Ph.D.

Listy klinické logopedie 2025, 9(1):19-24 | DOI: 10.36833/lkl.2025.006242

Spontaneous language production represents a fundamental form of communication in everyday interactions. In patients with aphasia, various aspects of spontaneous production are weakened, with the degree of impairment correlating with the severity of aphasia - ranging from mild to moderate to severe forms. However, there is still a lack of detailed knowledge regarding which specific areas of spontaneous speech are most affected depending on the degree of aphasia. The aim of this study is to comprehensively evaluate spontaneous production in patients with aphasia and to interpret the observed differences with respect to the severity of aphasia. Spontaneous...

THE IMPORTANCE OF SELF-FEEDING TRAINING AND DYSPHAGIA REGIMENS IN A RESIDENTIAL SOCIAL SERVICE USER WITH A COMBINED DISABILITY

Mgr. et Mgr. Petra Křížkovská, Ph.D., PhDr. Kateřina Kroupová, Ph.D.

Listy klinické logopedie 2025, 9(1):25-30 | DOI: 10.36833/lkl.2025.002237

The article presents partial successes within the framework of the intervention of a vision therapist/therapist for the visually impaired in one person and a clinical speech therapist in collaboration with an occupational therapist, for a client with a combined disability in the area of self-feeding and setting regimen measures to deal with dysphagia symptoms. In addition to the aspect of independent food intake, other specific areas are also emphasised in which the client's independence is supported, with the aim of achieving the highest possible level of activation. The aim of the article is to describe the process of training self-feeding, together...

Assessment of Children's Sociocognitive Abilities Using the ESB Test Battery: a Pilot Study

Mgr. Katarína Metesová, doc. Mgr. Svetlana Kapalková, PhD., Mgr. Henrieta Kučesová

Listy klinické logopedie 2025, 9(1):31-38 | DOI: 10.36833/lkl.2025.007376

Impaired sociocognitive abilities may signal the risk of a social (pragmatic) communication disorder or Autism Spectrum Disorder. Early identification of difficulties is crucial for initiating targeted intervention and preventing the escalation of existing deficits. The aim of this paper is to introduce the foreign diagnostic tool, the Early Sociocognitive Battery (ESB), developed by Shula Chiat, Penny Roy and Jennifer Warwick. This tool enables direct assessment of children's sociocognitive abilities at an early age. The theoretical description of the ESB is supplemented by a brief overview of the results from the pilot testing of 44 typically developing...

Estill Voice TrainingTM - A Popular Approach to Voice Training

Mgr. Bc. Kateřina Jehličková, Ph.D.

Listy klinické logopedie 2025, 9(1):39-42 | DOI: 10.36833/lkl.2025.008270

Estill Voice TrainingTM (EVT) is a voice training method based on the understanding of how the vocal mechanism works. This method offers an effective approach to voice development, re-education, and rehabilitation, making it valuable also in speech therapy practice. This article introduces the fundamentals of EVT, its principles and benefits, and provides a brief overview of the key techniques.

Genes and Speech

doc. MUDr. Markéta Vlčková, Ph.D., Ing. Hana Řezáčová, Ph.D., MUDr. Pavel TesnerPh.D., PaedDr. Lenka Pospíšilová, Ph.D., MUDr. Markéta Havlovicová

Listy klinické logopedie 2025, 9(1):43-53 | DOI: 10.36833/lkl.2025.009315

The human genome contains approximately 20,000 protein-coding genes, of which more than 15,000 (3/4) are expressed, among others, in the central nervous system. Variants that damage the function of these genes (called pathogenic variants) can lead to various forms of neurodevelopmental disorders (NDD), including speech and language disorders. These can occur alone or in various combinations. In this review article, we provide information on the possibilities, limits and importance of genetic testing in patients with NDD.

SPEECH IN RHYTHM OR WHY INTENSIVE AND INTERVAL THERAPY IN SPEECH THERAPY WORKS

PhDr. Veronika Včelíková, Ph.D., Mgr. Lea Šafránková

Listy klinické logopedie 2025, 9(1):67-74 | DOI: 10.36833/lkl.2025.012354

Speech, movement, proper ontogenetic development of the individual, cognition, emotions, ability to learn, memory and the list could go on. All of these are directly dependent on balance, which is based on the rhythm realised at an optimal pace with sufficient intensity and in regularly recurring intervals of well-chosen timing. Often, due to automated activities, we are not aware of the regularity, planning and organisation with which we perform the basic motor patterns that we intuitively and quite naturally learn through sufficiently intense interval rhythmic activities. And it is precisely the therapy in Speech Therapy practice conducted intensively...
