This article aims at speech/language comprehension difficulties at the sentence level in people with MCI, with the use of a case study. Sentence comprehension was examined in a female patient with amnestic MCI, by means of the Czech version of the Sentence Comprehension Test. Simona Hlaváčová

Listy klinické logopedie 2022, 6(2):27-33 | DOI: 10.36833/lkl.2022.0242078

Dementia is a complex syndrome with a rapidly growing global incidence. It has a dramatic impact, not only on the life of the patient who has been diagnosed, butalso on the lives of his or her loved ones. At the same time, the costs associated with dementia are significantly higher than the costs of other major diseases. Research confirms that the elimination of known modifiable risk factors can lead to a potential significant reduction in the incidence of dementia. In the absence of effective treatment, knowledge of the risk factors and primary prevention are essential measures for global public health....

Due to its complex nature, speech can be divided into four basic linguistic levels (phonetic-phonological, lexical-semantic, morphological-syntactic, and pragmatic).  Within the linguistically oriented directions, we have recently seen an increased interest in the field of Pragmalinguistics. However, Clinical Speech Therapy publications devoted to the pragmatic language level and difficulties in the field of social pragmatic communication are still lacking. The diagnosis of Social (Pragmatic) Communication Disorder has recently been included in the DSM-V diagnostic manual of the American Psychiatric Society (APA). The diagnosis of Developmental Language...
