This paper demonstrates the application of the preliminary version of a new diagnostic tool for assessing children's early phonological skills. The results of the first application are presented in two case studies. The rationale for the adaptation of the test is that in Slovakia there are no structured tests assessing phonological skills, specifically designed for children at an early age. Quantitative descriptions of children's phonetic repertoires, their ability to name test items and a comparison of their performance, as well as the course of administration indicate that the Slovak version of PEEPS-S has the potential to become a valuable assessment tool for Slovak- speaking children at an early age.
