Indications for cochlear implants

Cochlear implants have gradually become a common and routinely indicated procedure since their inception in the Czech Republic in the 1990s. The gradual expansion of indication options has progressed to the current state, which we summarise in this paper. We describe the main indication criteria for prelingual and postlingual hearing loss and procedures for the examination of candidates for cochlear implantation.
